Join The Blazing Heart Autism Center on World Autism Awareness Day to Walk with the Aim to Promote Autism Awareness.

Today is World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) we aim to put a spotlight on the hurdles that people with autism – and others living with autism – face every day.

Autism is the kind of disorder we, as Nigerians, do not expect to ever experience or have to deal with in our children and yet there are over 100 thousand cases per year recorded in Nigeria.

Autism Spectrum disorder is a disorder that affects at least 1 in 94 children and we believe that it is not only important to raise awareness but to encourage acceptance. Certain limitations and restrictions beyond our control should not hold us back from reaching our true individual potentials, and that given the right opportunities and the right directive, anyone, can achieve what we are often taught to be “unrealistic” or “impossible” achievements.

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are characterized by social-interaction difficulties, communication challenges and a tendency to engage in repetitive behaviors.

Symptoms and their severity vary widely across these three core areas. Taken together, they may result in relatively mild challenges for someone on the high functioning end of the autism spectrum. For others, symptoms may be more severe, as when repetitive behaviors and lack of spoken language interfere with everyday life.

Today is World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) we aim to put a spotlight on the hurdles that people with autism – and others living with autism – face every day.

As a growing global child developmental issue owing to its increasing exposure in the press and common knowledge, autism is an issue that needs to gain more understanding –
