The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja yesterday evening was arrested at his residence.
Following this development, the Rivers state government is accusing the Minister for Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and the GOC 6 Division of the Nigerian Army of masterminding the arrest of innocent Nigerians and prominent PDP members in Rivers state.
The essence of the arrest they allege is to precipitate a crisis and cause INEC to postpone the elections in the state on Saturday. The Government also accused the minister of wanting to use the abscence of the arrested members to create an avenue to rig the election and force his choice candidate on the people against their will.
This accusation was made through the commissioner for information and communications, Emma Okah.
According to the statement, any arrested person would be kept behind bars till after the governorship election in the state.
They also allege that alot of prominent persons have been penciled down for arrest, such as , the former governor of Rivers state, Sir Celestine Omehia, former Deputy Speaker of the house of Representatives, Austine Opara, state PDP chairman, Bro. Felix Obuah and others.
In a bid to encourage faithful, the government has asked its party members not to be cowed by this development but to be vigilant and to resist arrest by these people.
